7th Annual Taa-2nd Harvest Food Drive

7th Annual Taa-2nd Harvest Food Drive

< Back to News

April 21, 2010

History
In 2003, the Triad Apartment Association teamed up with 2nd Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and raised 8,900 cans of food that first year. In 2006, the Greensboro Grasshoppers joined our team. By 2009 we raised our yearly donation amount from 8900 the first year to over 209,000 cans!

Local media such as News2, Fox 8 and WXII have covered the event the day of the Grasshoppers game and the food drive conclusion dinner night at Embassy Suites. WXII had food drive chair, Dale Holder, on its morning show in the studio promoting the event.

Overview
Apartment communities that are members of TAA, will conduct food drive contests with their residents. 2nd Harvest collection boxes are placed in the clubhouse or office and usually are accompanied with award or incentive to donate food
for the residents.

This year, we plan to make it a friendly competition between the Winston-Salem Dash/WS area communities vs. Greensboro Grasshoppers/local communities. We have met with both clubs and have set dates for home stand food drive nights!

We have also contacted both Mayor Knight of Greensboro and Mayor Joines of Winston-Salem and both are eager to support the event!

Vision
Run local TV media spots weeks leading up to the event promoting the challenge to come to the ball park with a can or two! Video spots to be fun, “smack talk” between two mayors and including team mascots and or team spokes person, challenging each other and the public to come out or make a donation.

The individual resident in each city that donates the most cans of food at one of the communities, will get to throw out the first pitch in their home stadium. 2 winners, one Greensboro, one in Winston.

Participants
2nd Harvest Food Bank. Triad Apartment Association. Greensboro Grasshoppers. Winston-Salem Dash.

We are looking for a marketing partner to support the event.

When
